Women’s health issues discussed
Heart disease is the leading cause of death among women worldwide. In the United States, heart disease killed 289,758 women in 2013 – comprising 1 in every 4 female deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
February has been designated American Heart Month. Women can be overlooked in heart disease prevention efforts, since heart disease tends to be considered a “man’s disease”- despite the fact the same number of men and women are affected. However, research indicates only about 54 percent of women recognize heart disease is their number one cause of death.
