Thomas Olin Welborn Jr.
Thomas Olin Welborn Jr., age 94, passed away on June 17, 2016 in Seguin, Texas. Mr. Welborn, a longtime resident of the Aransas Pass/Ingleside area, was born on December 15, 1921 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Thomas Olin Welborn and Margaret Wright. He married Geneva Wallace on January 25, 1946. Following her death he married Betty Bowden. Mr. Welborn is preceded in death by his parents, his wives, brother J.D. Welborn and sister-in-law Blanche Welborn, and by his brother-in-law Warren Gamewell. He is survived by his sister Margret Gamewell, sons Ron Welborn and wife Darlene of Seguin and Mike Welborn and wife Laura of Aransas Pass. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Deanna Lowry of New Braunfels, Teresa Welborn and husband Paul Harper of Austin, Tom Welborn of Westminster, Colorado and Elizabeth Welborn of Sinton, by great-grandchildren Jonathan Lowry, James Lowry, Teresa Lowry and Clare Harper, a sister-in-law, Winnie Mae Culp and by numerous nephews, nieces and friends. During World War II Mr. Welborn served his country as a Merchant Marine. He experienced combat in a very real way when his ship, the M.F. Elliott, was torpedoed off the coast of South of America. Having grown up along the coast he spent most of his life actively engaged in the shrimping industry in Aransas Pass. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 22 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Ingleside, Texas, with Rev. Bill Knobles officiating. Interment will follow at The Palms Memorial Gardens. Visitation was held at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home of Aransas Pass on Tuesday, June 21 from noon to 9 p.m. with the family available from 5-7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Ingleside.
