My friend and colleague, Chester Moore, editor of Texas Fish and Game magazine, wrote a recent column about dangers encountered in the wilds. He included the usual suspects: wild hogs, rattlesnakes, cougars and bears. I would add copperheads.

Usually about this time of year or a little earlier, I write about the first Toyota ShareLunker in the 13-plus pound range of the Lunker legacy category having been caught – probably from Lake Fork. But since this is Leap Year, I guess I should have expected something unusual.

Contributed Photo Students from the Aransas Pass High School National Honor Society, AC Blunt Middle School LOTC Corps of Cadets, and Corpus Christi Grant Middle School Science & Spanish Club celebrated the Valentine’s holiday with their fifth “We Love Redfish Bay State Scientific Study Area” community cleanup along Harbor Island Road and HWY 361 on Saturday, February 15, 2020. The effort resulted in 60 bags of trash and miscellaneous items collected for an estimated 1,200 pounds. Faculty Sponsors were Senior Chief Cecil Fish and Hannah Coulter.
