Son’s ‘call’ turns into surprise visit for dad

Local resident Joseph Lacue Sr. received a surprise visit last week from his son Joseph Lacue Jr. which unexpectedly took place in the local newspaper office where the father had gone looking for a way to honor his son. The young man has served the United States Coast Guard for 19 years, and is on the verge of his 20th.

The elder Lacue paid a visit to the Progress office with a photograph of his son which he wanted to publish in the newspaper. Unbeknownst to the senior Lacue, his son who is stationed in Elizabeth City, NC, had arrived in Texas Wednesday June 21. Although he had been here three months ago, he was not able to make it down in time for Father’s Day. Lacue Jr. said he is about to be sent to Kodiak, Alaska and his report date has been moved up, so he wanted to come visit again before he leaves.
