Residents urged to prepare in case of hurricane
Information about hurricanes, before and after one hits, and the importance of being prepared was presented at the Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce luncheon last week by two speakers from emergency management agencies. City Emergency Manager Capt. Lynn Pearce and Texas Emergency Management District Coordinator Brandi Ashby-Fisher presented the information. Ashby-Fisher is from the Field Response DDC 20, Corpus Christi Texas Division of Emergency Management. Pearce explained,
“It is important we have a stand-alone emergency management. We know our strengths and weaknesses. We take care of our own.” He explained the different levels of the emergency operations center (EOC) which are: Level IV -normal conditions; Level III - increased readiness conditions, during which the EOC is not necessarily open, but there is increased monitoring; Level II - escalated response conditions and EOC partial staffing; and finally, Level I - emergency conditions, EOC full staffing.
