Panther first baseman headed to HCC

Panther first baseman Taylor “Shey” Cheek’s high school season is ending on a high note as he has just signed a letter of intent to join the Houston Community College (HCC) Eagles this fall, where his new coach hopes he will begin making an impact as soon as he hits the field.

The Aransas Pass High School senior is a four-year varsity baseball letterman who has been a mainstay at that position since transitioning there his freshman year. The young man explained he used to play catcher, but coming in as a freshman to the varsity program, he was moved to first base. “It saved my knees,” Cheek joked. He also has served as designated hitter for the Panthers. Looking back at this four-year Panther career, Cheek’s recalls the highlight of being named newcomer of the year in the district.
