Jimmy B. and Jo L. Shults

A graveside Memorial Service was held on November 22, 2021, in the Prairie View Cemetery for Jimmy B. Shults and his wife Jo L. Shults (née Green). They passed from this life within five months of each other with Jo L. passing on May 19th, 2021, and Jimmy following shortly after on October 23rd, 2021.

Jimmy was born November 1, 1938, to Joseph and Mable Shults in Boswell, Oklahoma. He and his family moved to Houston, where his father would work as a general contractor for many years. In 1956, Jimmy joined the United States Navy, serving his country for the next 20 years before retiring and pursuing a second career in the oil field. His career in the oil field gave him and his family the opportunity to travel; for three years, he and his family lived in Greece for three years, which has remained a cherished memory for the entire family. Jimmy loved anything that moved -- if it had an engine, needed an oil change, and had wheels, he was all in. He was very proud of earning his private helicopter license. He was a member of the Aransas Pass Masonic Lodge #1018 for many years. Hurricane Harvey displaced him and Jo to New Braunfels, Texas where they lived for the last three years of their lives.

Jo Laverne was born November 17, 1938, to Joe and Ruth Green (née Holden) in Aransas Pass, Texas. She graduated Aransas Pass High School and went on to graduate from the Art Institute of Houston, Texas with a degree in Fashion Illustration. She was always very proud of being a fifth generation Texan. She loved every type of creativity. She was a very talented portrait artist that could make anyone look both beautiful and just like themselves (and sometimes that was a hard one to pull off). She was a longtime member of the Corpus Christi Art Center, and she studied under local artists Simon Michael and Guy Morrow. She always encouraged her children and grandchildren to create and shared all of her many art supplies with any that asked. Always ready with clay, pencil, or a brush. Jo had an artist’s heart and a beautiful spirit. She embodied the best of mankind: kindness, compassion, thoughtfulness, humility, hope, and the greatest Love.

Jimmy and Jo L were married in 1961 and are survived by their children Lorraine Elizabeth Lemons (née Shults) and Joe Dwayne Shults, daughter-in-law Trina Shults, grandchildren Amanda Ford (née Jacobs), Amy Polasek (née Jacobs), Joseph Shults and Calyssa Kremer, Jimi Shults, and Tyler Shults, and their great grandchildren Sara Ford, Austin James, Macy Marie, Charles Ford, Emily Collins, Finnlee Polasek, and Iris Shults.
