Quintanilla ‘passes’ disaster-recovery test
Aransas Pass’ Public Works Director Fernando Quintanilla was recently interviewed by Federal Management Agency officials to discuss his role before, during and after Hurricane Harvey, as Quintanilla was serving then as Interim City Manager.
New City Manager Gary Edwards took over on Sept. 28, a month after Harvey wreaked havoc in the area. Quintanilla e continued with the Emergency Operations Center portion of city after Edwards came in, and then transitioned himself out as the city manager got up to speed and sat in on all meetings.
What he shared with Edwards to assist with his new role, is the fact the Aransas Pass City staff was well versed in what to do and everybody had their role. Quintanilla said, “Fortunately we all had been to plenty of FEMA trainings, and gone through scenarios and tabletops, and everyone prepared the best we could. We knew who to reach out to, what to do, who to call, and that really helped him to know to trust the staff to do their job.”
