One speaks at public hearing, city council explains budget
Only one person spoke at the public hearing for the tax rate at the Tuesday, Sept. 4, Aransas Pass City Council meeting, held after the original presentation from City Manager Gary Edwards regarding the proposed $0.805196 per $100 valuation tax rate.
As he began his presentation, the city manager explained the council has heard all this information, the presentation is to educate the public about what is being proposed and why. That includes listing what the city has accomplished one year after Hurricane Harvey.
Edwards pointed out the city has 50 projects on which it is working, and most are listed as “reimbursable” by FEMA, and some of those projects have been completed. That includes $3 million improvements to the Conn Brown bulkhead, debris removal of $8.1 million, and emergency response of $270,000, which occurred shortly before and shortly after the hurricane.
