City council considers higher tax rate, sets two public hearings
The Aransas Pass City Council originally approved setting the tax rate at the effective level, but after a second meeting voted to set the tax rate above that level, based on projected budgetary needs. Council members emphasized however that rate could be lowered as they continue to look at the budget, as well as hear from residents in two public hearings.
At a meeting on Aug. 20, the council approved setting Sept. 17, 2018 as the date of the adoption of an ad valorem tax rate of $0.735196 per $100 valuation. That is the effective rate which generates the same revenues as the previous year. The council also set Sept. 4 as the public hearing for the proposed fiscal year 2018-2019 operating budget.
