Collier visits AP

Democratic candidate for Texas lieutenant governor Mike Collier was in the area last week and stopped in at the Aransas Pass Progress office to introduce himself and talk about why he is seeking the position. Collier, a certified public accountant, first ran for comptroller in 2014, however before that he not held office. His main concern is the financial issues surrounding public education, particularly in regard to how it affects local property taxes. Collier is a graduate of Georgetown High School in Williamson County and the University of Texas, where he received his undergraduate degree and MBA. He began his career at Exxon, but later worked for PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Collier pointed out he was introduced to the coast in 1977, when his high school band went to Buccaneer Days in Corpus Christi. They needed a place to house 150 people and found one in Aransas Pass. He has been coming to this area ever since.
