By Norma L. Martinez
An Aransas Pass Independent School District (APISD) town hall meeting designated to gauge the community’s stand regarding district employees carrying firearms, turned into an overall session about security measures the district should implement. Of the 11 individuals who spoke, some did not express opposition to the consideration if strict guidelines/ requirements are in place, and some did not indicate their opinion either way. Approximately three dozen people were present for the session held at the APISD administration building Monday, June 4 with six of seven trustees and Superintendent Mark Kemp present. Also in attendance were Aransas Pass Police Chief Eric Blanchard, Capt. Lynn Pierce, and APPD executive assistant Stephanie Diaz. The two groups met in a standard response protocol workshop prior to the town hall meeting.
