Veterans should always be remembered

Although Memorial Day is designated as one day in the year, veterans who gave their all in the line of duty should always be remembered, said guest speaker Tom Diaz DeLeon III from Laredo. He is the son of local chapter member Thomas Diaz DeLeon Jr. and he was invited to speak at last week’s ceremony. Due to early press deadlines Monday, May 28, limited information about the ceremony was published in last week’s edition.

Diaz DeLeon III was introduced by his father who noted his son graduated in 1990 from Carroll High School where he was part of the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC). He enlisted at the age of 17, entering the aviation maintenance program at Huntsville, Alabama, with the Texas Air National Guard. He has served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and is Honduras, and his job now is working Border Patrol Homeland Security. In the service, he has earned a bachelor’s degree and is working to finish his master’s degree.
