Lester Maurice “Doodle” Matthews
Lester Maurice “Doodle” Matthews was born on Dec. 13, 1928 in Willis, TX and peacefully passed away in his home in Ingleside, on May 29, 2018.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Beverly “Cookie” Matthews; two daughters, Sherri (Mike) Tringali of Aransas Pass, and Jeannie (Chris) Dyer of Leander; his five grandchildren, Michael, Cameron, Ashton Tringali, Ashley and McKenna Dyer; and two great grandchildren, Domonic and Amelia Tringali. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alma and Barnum L. Matthews; brothers Glynn Matthews, and C.B. Matthews; and sisters, Ida Lea Reynolds, Lanette Nolte, and Alli B Humphrey.
Matthews proudly served in the United States Army from 1950 - 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He was an iron worker with Local 510 out of Corpus Christi, until he transferred to Chicago, IL Local 539. As an iron worker he traveled the United States extensively. Upon returning home, he worked for Squyres Boat Building. In later years, his entire life revolved around his family and what seemed like a never-ending list of things he needed to accomplish for those he loved. His mind, nor his hands, were ever idle. His love, kindness and generosity has left an indelible mark on many ... he will never be forgotten, but always missed.
Visitation was held Friday, June 1, 2018 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Homes in Aransas Pass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA San Patricio County at P.O. Box 1693, Aransas Pass, TX 78335.
