Raymond Oscar Cooper
Raymond Oscar Cooper, 87, DVM of Ingleside, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017. Ray was born to parents Rollie Everett Cooper, Sr. and Betty (Burris) Cooper on Dec. 27, 1929 in Greene, IL. He grew up as the youngest of three and graduated from high school with honors while at the same time managing the family farm during his senior year. After college, he attended Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine graduating with high honors. He then set up his practice in Springfield, IL. He owned and operated Parkway Veterinary Clinic there for almost 40 years. Raymond and Janet Campbell married in 1990 and worked together in the clinic until his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed camping, kayaking in the gulf, fishing, carpentry, and gardening. After retirement Raymond used the carpentry skills he learned on the farm when the couple built their own home by hand - a geodesic dome - in Port Aransas. They later moved to Ingleside, and have been active members of the Ingleside Beach Club. Raymond is survived by wife Janet; his sons, Rollie (Zeny) and Richard (Lorinda); grandchildren Christina, Laura and Brit; and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Rollie Everett Jr.; by his first wife, Helen (McIntyre) Cooper; and his sister Rhoda (Cooper) McIntyre. There will be a celebration of life at The Ingleside Beach Club in Ingleside on the Bay, Saturday Oct. 7, 2017. The family is grateful for condolences, and declines flowers and donations.
