David A. Love Sr.

David A. Love Sr.’s life began on January 3, 1932, in Galva, Kansas the son of Raleigh and Mary (Bowser) Love. He graduated from El Dorado High School Class of 1950, and served his country with the U.S Army Calvary during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to the former Elsie May Smock on June 2, 1952, in El Dorado. David’s love for his Lord and family was prevalent in his everyday life. He retired from Santa Fe Railroad in 1990 after 35 years of service, but before that worked in the oil fields and as a police officer in El Dorado. David enjoyed woodworking, fresh water fishing, and deep sea fishing when they moved to Aransas Pass, Texas from 1990-2012. He made sure his boys enjoyed fishing too. David and Elsie relocated back to El Dorado to be closer to family. He was always a favorite to his grand and great-grandchildren by making funny faces and sharing his Pringles with them. David also enjoyed his church family and was a deacon at Temple Baptist Church in El Dorado. His loving family includes his wife of 64 years, Elsie Love of El Dorado; sons, Donald and his wife Nancy Love of Rosalia, Dennis and his wife Debbie Love of Winfield; brother, Keith and his wife Carol of El Dorado; daughter-in-law and her husband Darla and Mark Walker of El Dorado; 10 grandchildren, Kari Scott, Dawn Lockrow, Devin Love, Kaitlyn Walker, David Love, Dallas Love, Danielle Love, Joshua Horn, Danae Love and Mercedez Garwood; 10 great-grandchildren. David was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David A. Love Jr.; siblings, Darlene Brecht, Margaret Maquire, Ernie Love and Nancy Meyers. David passed away at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield on Sunday, September 4, 2016. His family gathered with friends on Wednesday, September 7, from 5-7 p.m. His funeral service was held on Thursday, September 8, at 10:30 a.m. both at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home with Brother Bill Lindley officiating. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado with military honors. Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to Temple Baptist Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
