Evelyn Martin Cole
Evelyn Martin Cole passed away on August 8, 2016. She was 85 years old. While her passing leaves a hole in the hearts of her family and friends, we are content with the thought of her reunion with her husband Dutch, who passed away in May of this year. We know he welcomed her with the question “what took you so long?” She was born on August 24, 1930, in Normangee, Texas to Leo and Lula Mae Martin. Following her mother’s death in 1939 she and her father moved to the Ingleside-Aransas Pass area where she lived the rest of her life. In October of 1949, she married Winfred “Dutch” Cole and they enjoyed 66 years together, raising three sons. Evelyn was a full time homemaker, always taking care of things while Dutch was out shrimping. She enjoyed hunting and fishing with her family. Together they spent many Christmases on deer leases in South Texas, where they decorated a mesquite tree with lights and ornaments. After Dutch retired from Shrimping, the two of them spent many days fishing on the bays. She also enjoyed crocheting and was always gifting her family and friends with items she had made. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a sister, Lynelle Freer. She is survived by three sons, Gerald (Naomi) Cole, Richard Cole, and William Cole all of Aransas Pass, Texas; four grandsons, Jerry (Misty) Cole, Randy (Jennifer) Cole, Richie Cole, Jr., and Jonathan Cole all of Aransas Pass, Texas; three great-granddaughters, Journey Cole, Jocelyn Cole, and Ariannah Cole; two great grandsons, Jordan Cole, and Dylan Cole all of Aransas Pass, Texas; two brothers, Tommy Martin, of Troy, Idaho, and Larry Martin of Moscow, Idaho. Visitation were held on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016, from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. with the family being present from 5 p.m.- 7 p.m. Funeral Service was held Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass, Texas. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery in Aransas Pass, Texas. Pallbearers will be Jerry Cole, Randy Cole, Jordan Cole, Dylan Cole, Robert Upton, and David Upton.
