Moving third grade to CME campus discussed
A handful of Aransas Pass Independent School District parents attended a public meeting regarding moving the district’s PK-2nd into H.T. Faulk Elementary and 3rd grade into Charlie Marshall Elementary (CME) beginning with the 2019-2020 school year.
APISD superintendent Cara Cooke presented the information, then allowed parents/community members to ask questions and/or express concerns.
She explained in May 2016 when the school district bond passed, there were 618 students enrolled in prekindergarten through third grades. At that time, school officials did not know in April 2017, Exxon-Mobil would announce there would be 600 permanent jobs in its upcoming project. They also did not know in that same year, Cheniere would announce the expansion of its company, which began its first construction in 2015.
At the time, the APISD was concerned with constructing a replacement school and not a growth school. Then in August of 2017, Hurricane Harvey hit, and that changed the community’s population.
