Julia Andersen Slaughter
Julia Roene Andersen Slaughter September 5, 1915 - September 14, 2019 (Age 104)
Julia was born September 5, 1915 in Weslaco, Texas to Walter and Alma Andersen. Walter was one of the founders of Weslaco and its first fire chief. After graduating from Weslaco High School in 1933, she enrolled in Texas A&I at Kingsville.
It was while at A&I she met her future husband George P Slaughter. They married in 1936. Julia had left school to get married but returned to A&I 15 years later to earn her teaching degree.
This lead to a 26-year career in education in elementary schools in Brownsville, Weslaco, Kingsville, and Aransas Pass. After living 30 years in Aransas Pass Julia and George moved back to Weslaco and took up residence at John Knox Village where they remained the rest of their lives. George passed away in 1996.
Julia is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Alma Andersen, brother Odel and wife Martha, brother Keith and wife Nancy and sister Erma and husband Jack McAdams.
Julia is survived by Julia (Jan) Clements and husband Bill; two granddaughters: Julia Dell Otterness and husband Bill, Roena Anne Morgan and husband Keith; three great grand children: Hannah Morgan, 21, Silas Morgan 17, and Maggie Morgan 9.
