It is with great sadness that the family of Hollis Ellington Fuller announces his passing on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 in Portland, Texas, at the age of 84. Hollis passed peacefully following an extended illness of cancer.
Hollis was born July 21, 1935 in Hopewell, Mississippi to Delavin Fuller and Verga Thornhill Fuller. He joined the Marine Corps in 1955, serving until 1957.
He attained the rank of Corporal USMC on December 1, 1955 and maintained this rank until he was honorably discharged on March 9,1958.
After returning to Houston, Texas, he met and married Juanita Stripling, of Shepherd, TX.
Hollis worked as a contracted lineman prior to working as an Independent contractor for GTE/Bell Telephone/ Windstream/Verizon from 1978 until 2014. After retiring he and Juanita moved to Portland TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings: Deloris Walters, Floy Fuller and Bernard Fuller.
Hollis is lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Juanita and his children, Anita (Scott) Cranston of North Wilkesboro, NC, Gina (Pat) Caldwell of Portland, TX and Jim (Aloma) Fuller of Mesquite, TX. He will also be remembered by his six grandchildren: John Robert Caldwell (Vanessa) James Thomas Caldwell, Kara Nicole Caldwell, Tessa Rose Thompson (Isaiah), Connor Gordon Cranston and Jordan Stewart Fuller, and four greatgrandchildren: Gannon, Jaxxen, Cindel Caldwell and Bentley Caldwell.
Due to the current pandemic situation a Memorial service is postponed until a future date as he donated his body to science.
