Disciple Ship’s course not deterred after storm
Barely open three months before the arrival of Hurricane Harvey in August 2017, The Disciple Ship Nautical Décor Store, held up through the massive storm and reopened in the community which supported it as a fledgling store. The building did not sustain much damage and was able to reopen and did so as the community was in need of businesses.
Owner Keith Lawrence explained the store’s mission is to provide sustainable income for Coastal Bend Grace House (CBGH), a faith-based transition home for women coming out of destructive lifestyles. They provide a “live in” home environment for nine months, free of charge. Lawrence explained, “This (store) helps them do that so the women can get the help they need. A lot of the women we help, if they had to pay, wouldn’t get the help they need.”
