County judge talks about ‘state of county’

San Patricio County is in good shape as far as tax revenue, but school districts could be drastically affected if Senate Bill 2 is passed during the special Legislative session, San Patricio County Judge Terry Simpson told attendees at the Aransas Pass Chamber’s monthly luncheon.

The program featured a state of the county address by Simpson, who has served as county judge for 14 years. He began his speech by talking about what’s happening in Austin, nothing there are some real concerns.

Education funding In regard to education funding, he said prior to 2006, funding came from three sources - federal, state, and local (property owners). In 2006, the state reformed school finance and shifted the burden away from the state and to local property owners.
