Coastal Plains expands into Aransas Pass
Coastal Plains held a ribbon cutting and open house on Aug. 31 for the new Aransas Pass Coastal Plains Clinic at 1016 South Commercial. Executive Director Mark Durand welcomed guests and Board of Directors Trustees Richard Bianchi, Aransas County Court-at-Law Judge and Terry Simpson, San Patricio County Judge.
Durand said the Aransas County Mental Health Clinic programs had been growing with staff actually working out of closets. Jonathan Heyward, Clinic Director, was offered the use of the existing facility in Aransas Pass for services of the residents. Ingleside residents heard about the new location and began requesting services in Aransas Pass.
With 100 adults and 25 children receiving services in Aransas Pass, Durand said it had grown from the status of an annex to a clinic by customer demand. The Aransas Pass Clinic also breaks down county lines for services. Aransas County and San Patricio County residents will now be able to receive services from the same location.
Durand was able to lease a newly vacant space beside the Community Center location and began the renovations. After Judge Simpson cut the ribbon, Heyward conducted the tour of the new office facility. After entering the reception area, the tour went down a single hallway.
The first office is to be shared by a case manager and Dr. Krishmaiah Rayasan who currently holds one psychiatric clinic each month. Beginning in October, two dates will be reserved monthly for his clinics.
Another office is for the Youth Empowerment Services (YES) Coordinator Magda Luna. This new, more flexible program provides family-centered and family-driven service for a child or adolescent with severe emotional disturbances.
Another office will be used by local resident Robert Petty as he continues to provide services for Intellectual Developmental and Disabilities (IDD) clients. Previously Petty met clients in the Portland facility but now will have less “windshield” time.
A washer and dryer were located in the final storage area. Joel Perez, Coastal Plains IDD Director, explained many clients do not have easy access to laundry facilities. When someone attends a clinic appointment, they are allowed to bring their laundry with them. Perez said it is another way to draw people in by giving them what they need.
This new clinic is not a stopping place for Coastal Plains. As additional needs are identified and possible solutions are considered, the Community Center space may be reutilized in another way. The toll free Coastal Plains Community Center main number for further information is 1(888) 819-5312.
