Chris’s Marine ‘rides’ out hurricane

Chris Coulter has been through several hurricanes and did not think Harvey would be anything big, and even spent the night before it made landfall doing what he normally does – bowling. When he got done that night however, he just suddenly had a realization it could be worse than what it was originally predicted – so with the help of one of his employees they boarded up his business, Chris’s Marine, and prepared to ride out the storm – not realizing just how bad it would be.

Coulter began the business as Performance Marine in 1992 as an outboard repair shop only. In 1999 sold to a marine company out of San Antonio, and he and wife Julie ran it for them. Working for that company taught him about sales which came in handy after 9-11 (Sept. 11, 2001), when the company owners wanted out and sold the business back to him.

He then established what is now Chris’s Marine and is very much aware of the incorrect grammar of the name as it has been pointed out to him by several of his former teachers. He explained there was already a Chris’ Marine in Port Aransas, so he chose to go with the “incorrect” name, which also assured it would not be forgotten.
