APHS Scholarship Recipients Announced

Aransas Pass High School held the Senior Banquet on May 19 at the APHS cafeteria for community organizations to announce the recipients of scholarships. All of the community presenters made note the Class of 2016 made their decisions of choosing the recipient(s) very difficult as each entry was great. 

Matt McElroy received a $500 scholarship from the Order of the Eastern Star. The Aransas Pass Lions Club presented a $500 scholarship to Arion Martinez.

The Aransas Pass Mosaic Lodge gave out three $750 scholarships to McElroy, James Hale and Jacob Pearson. The Aransas Pass Woman’s Club was able to present eight $1,000 scholarships because of the Style Show they host. The Woman’s Club scholarships went to Diana Cortez, Sergio Flores, Johnathen Adame, Eric Ancira, McElroy, Colin Hale, Mia Hassan and Sarah Davis.

The Knights of Columbus presented four $500 scholarships to Davis, Ancira, Mia Hassan and Colin Hale. The eight $500 APHS Alumni Association scholarship recipients included Cortez, Davis, Cassie Figueroa, Flores, Colin Hale, Juan Maldonado, Tyler Villarreal and Micah Villarreal. The Boehnke memorial scholarship was presented to Adame for $500. Davis received the Care Regional Medical Center Auxiliary $1,500 scholarship. The Hibiscus Garden Club gave four $500 scholarships to Flores, Claudia Valdez, Davis and Connor Sullivan. A member of the garden club and her husband announced they will provide help to Tyler and Micah Villarreal for all four years of college if grades are kept up.

Adame was given a $250 scholarship from the San Patricio County Association of Realtors. The Texas Extension Education of Aransas Pass announced seven scholarship recipients including Nicole Chapa, Figueroa, Flores, Sullivan, Colin Hale, Davis, and Amanda Brown who received a continuing scholarship.

The Aransas Pass Moose Lodge presented six $500 scholarships to Martinez, Davis, Flores, Hassan, Claudia Hernandez, and Maldonado. Adame received the $1,000 Alan Pitre Memorial Scholarship. Colin Hale was announced as the recipient of the Aransas Pass/Ingleside Ministerial Alliance scholarship. The Aransas Pass Athletic Booster Club gave 10 $500 scholarships to Sullivan, Pearson, McElroy, Martinez, Colin Hale, Kayla Gomez, Cortez, Celesse Brown, Ancira and Adame.

The Blessings Shop presented two $1,000 scholarships to Sullivan and McElroy. The Aransas Pass Rotary Club announced four $500 scholarships recipients including Maldonado, Sullivan, Christopher Abrego and Ryan Padilla. The Aransas Pass VFW presented Stephanie Meza with a $500 scholarship. Ancira received the $500 Bedre scholarship.

The Top 10 in the Class of 2016 were recognized as well as the Valedictorian Flores and Salutatorian Valdez. Forty-four honor students were given medals and recognized for having a grade point average of 90 or above.
